Transitional decors around 1900
It is quite remarkable how quickly the conventional decors disappear after 1899. Perhaps the Gouda decors had started to sell really well, perhaps the taste of the public was changing. But the last decors that seem more to have in common with the conventional type decors appear also to have been influenced by the emerging Gouda decor. We have grouped them under the caption ‘Transitional’, as that is what they appear to be: a short-lived period where a previous style mixes with the next style.
The attribution of objects to this group is of course highly subjective and the personal choice of this collector!
