Gouda decors development

The decor that would later be known as the ‘Gouda’ was the first successful and long-lived decor range developed by PZH. The design is attributed to ex-Rozenburg artist W.G.F Jansen, who worked for PZH between 1898 and 1899 and developed it in 1898. The decor evolved during the circa thirty years in production and was also widely adopted by other factories. The Gouda decors in the collection can be dated to three periods in the first decade of production at PZH. The second period from c.1900 to c.1906 sees the development of a wide variety of decor types that unfortunately are still difficult to date. So the evolutionary development remains, for now, a mystery.
