Baars, Sipke

Born : Sneek, 2 Nov 1877

Worked at PZH from April 1901 until Dec. 1901

Sipke Baars was born in 1877 in Sneek as son of a notaris (solicitor) klerk and his wife. He moved in May 1898 to live with an aunt in Amsterdam, no profession noted. In October that year, he moved to Scheveningen near The Hague, but he does not appear to have worked for Rozenburg. In June 1899 he is back in Amsterdam until he moved to Delft 4 months later. From there he arrived in Gouda in April 1901 and is registered as plateel schilder. Early December the same year he moved back to Delft. From April to November 1902 he lived in Amsterdam again registered as a decoration painter. Winter 1902/1903 he was back in Delft, then lived in Amsterdam for 2 years and in Luik (Liege) for 4 months. Back in Amsterdam he married in May 1906 and moved to Delft where he died in 1956, age 79. TGPB places him at PZH from 1901 until 1910, but biography and lack of output at PZH make a 7 months working period in 1901 more likely.

He appears to have been one of the painters specifically hired by PZH to paint their Delftware range. He will have worked under or closely with H Breetvelt who designed most of the early PZH Delft decors.
